About Paws for Reading
- Participants have a one-on-one reading session with a certified therapy dog (handler will be present at all times).
- Each time a participant reads to a therapy dog, they earn a sticker for their bookmark.
- When a participant's bookmark is full of stickers, he/she may choose a book of their very own!
- Paws for Reading occurs every 3rd Saturday of the month from 1pm - 2:30pm
Why Read to a Therapy Dog?
Oftentimes, young or beginning readers are unsure of their abilities especially if they struggle with reading. The calming affect therapy dogs have on one's fears, anxieties, and even ailments is evident. Our hope, through Paws For Reading, is to provide a relaxing and open-minded environment in which children can develop literacy, social, and communication skills and most importantly, foster a love of reading.
